Who does this program work best for?

My background is in strength and conditioning and the program reflects that. The program is best for someone who is looking to use resistance training to feel strong and confident. Workouts are the right balance between consistency so that you can see progress in each exercise, and variety so you don't get bored. You'll find science-backed content, and none of the gimmicky fitness moves.

Pregnant moms and moms taking their first step toward fitness after having a baby should join a group series or private training. Visit Active Mom Fitness for more info.

What equipment do I need?

Most workouts will include the use of dumbbells. A lighter pair and heavier pair is recommended. A mat is suggested.

Additional equipment like bands with handles that can be anchored, loop (glute) bands and a small pilates ball are helpful for variety, but not required.

Is the program really suitable for all levels of fitness?

Yes! But part of that is your responsibility. The program is designed to emphasize technique so you avoid injury, but also teach you how to challenge yourself in a progressive way so you see results. The program can absolutely work for all levels.

What do you mean by function?

Functional fitness is training specific movement patterns so that you can meet the demands of your daily life. Think hinging to pick up your baby out of the crib (deadlifts) or lunging forward to pick up laundry off the ground. This style of training focuses on movement patterns instead of individual muscles so that you benefit from more than just appearance.

Are the programs suitable if I have diastasis recti, prolapse or pelvic floor dysfunction?

The short answer is yes. You'll receive cues on how to breathe to engage your abs, we'll incorporate pelvic floor work, and technique will be emphasized. However, it is assumed that you've worked one-on-one with a pre/postnatal specialist or physical therapist so that you have an understanding of your contraindications and have spent time addressing these issues before joining this program.

Should I wait until the first of the month to start?

Nope! There is nothing worse than the "I'll start Monday" approach to fitness. Fitness is a lifestyle and not about a start and end date so this program allows you to start at any time. New programs are sent the first week of every month and not based on your start date.

What about cardio?

If you like doing cardio, you can and should include it on non-strength training days. For those of you not huge fans of cardio, general physical activity like moderate to vigorous walking is a perfect supplement. Often these workouts are meant to keep you moving so you'll get the aerobic benefit from the strength workouts.

How long do I have to commit?

As long as you want. Cancel anytime. Remember billing occurs every 30 days so be aware of this when cancelling and do so before the next billing cycle. There will be no refunds or partial refunds for any reason.

Keep in mind that strength training results don't happen overnight. But with the right program and by staying consistent while continuing to challenge yourself, you will:
  • get stronger
  • feel more confident
  • see more definition
  • increase your energy
  • and feel good!
